Rotary club through its initiative of supporting communities donated a solar system to Kyango health III, one of the units under Masaka Diocese to promote the safety of mothers during child birth. Kyango is one of the high volume health center III in Masaka Diocese but with poor infrastructures. Kyango did not have a reliable power source which affected the work of mid wives during deliveries at night and during the day when it was dark.
The rotary club of Kiwatule partnered with ‘we care solar’ company to provide a solar system known as “We care solar suitcase” to Kyango Health Center so as to provide a conducive atmosphere at child birth to promote the safety of mothers and the unborn babies.
The ‘we care solar’ suitcase was designed to support timely and efficient emergency obstetric care, but can be used in a range of medical and humanitarian settings. The water-and-dust tight yellow case becomes a cabinet that is mounted to the wall and the solar panels are secured to the roof. The system includes a 12V, 20Ah lithium ferrous phosphate battery, four high-efficiency LED lights for medical task lighting, two 12V DC accessory (lighter) sockets, two USB ports, and two expansion ports to allow for optional accessories or additional lights. A custom display and user interface make operation simple and intuitive. The Solar Suitcase also includes two rechargeable headlamps, a foetal Doppler with rechargeable AA batteries, an infrared thermometer with rechargeable AAA batteries, and an AA/AAA rechargeable battery charger
The We Care Solar Suitcase is a robust, easy-to-use solar electric system that was designed to provide to the last-mile health facilities with highly efficient medical lighting and power for mobile communication and small medical devices. The Suitcase supports timely and efficient emergency obstetric care. The system was designed with minimal maintenance to allow medical professionals concentrate on medicine and health care, but not monitoring a power device ((https://wecaresolar.org/solar-suitcase/.).
Kyango received the whole package with a guarantee for over 20 years, regular maintenance at zero charge and a battery change over every after five years. The health workers were trained very in the use and maintenance of the system and all the components. And a certificate was awarded.
Great thanks to the Rotary Club of Kiwatule for the thoughtfulness and we care solar company.
