Historical background

It was started in 1982 by Masaka Diocesan priests who were serving at Mbuye Catholic Parish. It was started to provide treatment for patients who were suffering from measles in the parish and surrounding areas. It started as a very small unit with only one health worker called Musawo Nabaketta Margret who was an enrolled midwife. Later on another small block was constructed through community mobilization and support.

It is a private not for profit health center under Masaka diocese supervised by the Diocesan health Office

Projects

1. The Safe Birth project

This is a project supported by Microfinance partners USA to promote the safety of mothers during antenatal, childbirth and postnatal. The project supports the health unit with a grant which is multiplied to help needy mothers during delivery and after delivery. The mothers are provided with some capital to startup a project to look after themselves and their babies.

Mbuye under this project started a piggery project and so far more than 20 mothers have benefitted from the project
